Take 539 332

Yesterday, I watched this post by Maria at amotherworld.com and thought Great idea! I’m going to do that for my next post (because I haven’t really been inspired to write lately).

I thought it would be easy. One take… maybe two. It turns out that it’s not as easy as it looks. Dozens of takes later, I had nothing. It was impossibly difficult for me to articulate my thoughts while talking to my computer. A backspace button on my mouth would have helped.

I didn’t want to waste my hours of effort (which I wish was an exaggeration), so I decided to share my adventures in vlogging with you.

These are the best takes (of too many). Enjoy!

So, there you have it. I guess I’m not quitting my day job any time soon.

  1. First, you rock that hat. And second, kudos for even trying to vlog. I’m too much of a chicken for it.

And don’t take this the wrong way but you are nothing like how I imagined you to look or sound, even with the picture on your site. I just think it’s interesting the projections we have of someone we’ve never met versus who they really are. While they don’t often mesh, it’s always a pleasant surprise.

  2. You.are.awesome!

LOL! I love that look on your face at the end of the first one… just totally annoyed that you have to start over AGAIN!

I do that with my Extended Absence Greeting on the phone… Especially since my message has to be bilingual for work. Aargh!

Anyway, kudos for trying. It’s great to put a voice to a face (although I couldn’t hear you very well… I had to put the volume up all the way – probably just my computer at work sucks). Thanks for sharing!

    • Thanks, Shannon! Yes, that ‘look’ is totally me. I think that was actually take 45 (no word of a lie). I was so determined, but still came up with nada.

  3. I have to agree w/ Justine, you are not what I pictured! :) Even better! And now I’m happy to know exactly what face to look for next week!
And lady, you did a hell of a lot better than I think I’d be able to on a vlog. I’ve thought about doing one… but then…. never happened. Good for you for putting it out there!

    • Yay for even better! :)

Yeah, maybe this will help a few people recognize me next week.

You should so do one, Corinne! I am sure you’d do better that I did. ;)

    • Aww you are so sweet! Glad you enjoyed them. You should do one – even if you only have the outtakes to post. ;)

  4. Good try! I can only imagine how hard it would be to try and talk to people through your computer. I love that you shared your attempts with us!

    • Thanks, Lisa. Well, I tried. I was so weird to talk to myself on my screen and every time I messed up (which was often), I had to start over.

  5. I’m with Alli. I’m not brave enough. I hate hearing my voice and seeing me on video and stuff. It feels all weird. But I like hearing other bloggers! Thanks for sharing with us. It’s always cool to hear someone’s real voice instead of just their writing voice.

    • I don’t sound a thing like I think I do, which is so weird to me.

I can’t wait to be able to put a voice to your face very soon!

    • Thank you, Sarah! If I had been trying to be something I am not, I would have failed even more miserably. Ha!

      Good times. ;)

  6. Well Sarah, I knew you were awesome, but yes, vlogging is super difficult to get it to flow seamlessly and to express how we think and feel.

Kudos for not giving up and for always having a sense of humour :)

    • Thanks, Carolyn! Well, I did eventually give up on conveying any “content” but the outtakes were way better.

It’s fun to laugh at myself. ;)

  7. I tried to vlog for the first time last week and ended up with many many many videos like these. Lots of rolling my eyes at myself and being shy in front of my computer. So silly :)

    • I think I am too much of a perfectionist to post a serious vlog. I stopped it every time I said ‘um’ or ‘uh’

I enjoy laughing at myself, so I figured I’d post these. You should post your outtakes! :)

  8. You are extremely articulate person-to-person. It’s funny to see you at a loss for words! If you talked to yourself all the time, like I do, you might find vlogging easier. Just don’t do it in the supermarket – it’s embarrassing!

  9. I absolutely love this post. You are so brave to try. I have a hard enough time getting my words out on my blog so kudos to you for attempting to vlog.
I think you will succeed… you don’t seem like a person who gives up so I look forward to seeing your next attempt.
P.S. Thanks for the giggle, your expressions were hilarious.

  10. Part of me wishes I had seen this BEFORE Blogher so that I would have been prepared for how adorable you are in “person” but the other part of me loved the surprise! (Not that I didn’t expect you to be adorable…). This is hysterical. I have never tried to Vlog. Maybe it’s in my future. Maybe not. I don’t think there’s any way I could do it… I’m not good at talking to myself. What were you planning on talking about? Just flow of thoughts? Or did you have a topic?

Miss you – but so glad I now have this to click on when I need me some Sarah Fix.

    xo
