Sarah,

This is good advice for anyone. Parental involvement in helping children make good choices is vital. "Q" is blessed to have these words of wisdom.

My husband and I used to laugh when we saw Jamie Leigh Curtis's character in the movie Freaky Friday - a crazed psychologist and single mother of two - yell out the window of her car, "Make good choices!" as she dropped her teenage daughter (played by Lindsay Lohan) off at school Then, it dawned on us... that's exactly what you want your kids to do each day! So, this is what our 11-year-old daughter hears every day as she prepares to go to school. Our 3-year-old has heard it so often that she now repeats it to her older sister, too.

I love your explanation on how choices are made and how they affect who we are. It's so fabulously clear and simple that I'm going to print out your letter and post it in my daughter's room to encourage her to read it in hopes that your explanation, so simply and perfectly articulated, will get her attention and help her understand.

For now, I know a mother's sage advice comes across as "noise". But, I'm confident one day my bright and talented child will understand mom's good intentioned words.

Thanks!
